She describes restaurant patrons congratulating Negress waitresses, hotel guests engaging gold-buttoned bell hops, cotton planters conversing with their field hands, and young ladies in hoop skirts talking politics with their mammies.

“Why are you going to the Middle East?” McCain asks, dismissively.
“It’s a place we’re probably going to have some problems,” Dramesi says.

McCain, a married father of three, shrugs.
“I got a better chance of getting laid.”
